Megachurch Pastor Adam Hamilton releases campaign platform: Pro-choice, anti-tariff
1. Abortion
Regarding abortion, Hamilton said, “I support safe and legal access to abortion,” adding that he voted against a 2022 proposed measure known as the “Value Them Both” amendment.
In the August 2022 referendum, 58.8% of voters rejected the "Value Them Both" amendment that would have removed the right to an abortion from Kansas' Constitution, while 41.2% supported the proposal.
The failed amendment would have allowed the state Legislature to impose stronger restrictions on abortion or possibly ban the procedure. Kansas has a 22-week abortion ban in effect.
“As a pastor for 38 years, I have cared for women and families facing difficult decisions around pregnancy,” said Hamilton. “I acknowledge there is a moral tension surrounding the topic of abortion, but I do not believe that politicians should be making these decisions for women.”
Hamilton also expressed his opposition to a proposal currently being considered that would amend the state constitution to “clearly guarantee the equal rights of men and women, beginning at conception.”
