2. Term limits, age limits

Hamilton voiced his support for some method of limiting the time people can serve in Congress, be it term limits or age limits.

“There are some members of Congress who have served for four decades, and 24 members of Congress who are over age 80. The oldest senator is in his 90s.”

Hamilton pointed out that his denomination, the United Methodist Church, has a mandatory retirement age for clergy of 72.

“We’ve painfully seen senators and presidents whose age has hurt their ability to do their job,” stated Hamilton. “I think having the same folks in power for decades on end is part of the reason we’re stuck in a lot of the same old political fights.”
