Bishop Robert Barron, Tucker Carlson talk rise of evil and hope of revival
Rising tide of evil
Barron claimed the scale of Christian persecution is worse than it has ever been in history, noting how the 20th century saw more Christian martyrs than all previous Christian centuries combined.
Barron suggested the horrors of the 20th century and its lingering fallout was a fulfillment of Pope Leo XIII’s prediction that the century would “belong to the devil.”
Barron said that Pope Leo XIII, who died in 1903, “supposedly had an intuition or a sense that the 20th century would belong to the devil.”
“And to my mind, it's kind of hard to argue with that,” he said, noting that the catastrophes of the 20th century have no political explanation. Carlson interjected in agreement, suggesting nuclear weapons were a major spiritual pivot in history. He has previously implied that he believes nuclear technology is demonic in origin.
According to Catholic tradition, Pope Leo XIII collapsed after Mass on Oct. 13, 1884, after having experienced a vision of Satan approaching the throne of God and asking for a century of increased power to assail the Church, which God reportedly granted.
The pope then reportedly saw the unprecedented scale of war, genocide, apostasy and sexual immorality of the 20th century, which prompted him to pen the St. Michael the Archangel prayer, which invokes aid “against the rulers of the world of darkness and the spirit of wickedness in high places.”
