Christian Reformed Church Synod 2005 Declares 38 Ministry Candidates
The Christian Reformed Church (CRC) in North America accepted 38 graduates from Calvin Theological Seminary as candidates for ministry, during its annual Synod meeting, on June 14, 2005.
While synods most often meet on the campus of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., this year, it convened at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Ill. for an eight-day conference that began last Saturday.
Synod president Rev. Wayne Brouwer defined Christians as people of the dawn who are called to live as children of the light in his address to the 31 men and seven women who are now eligible for call to Christian Reformed congregations.
You are those who have the opportunity to share that light through your ministry, he told the candidates.
In separate decisions, synod extended the candidacy of four others for one year and instructed the Board of Trustees to find ways to help seminary students in ministry training to pay for Christian schooling for their children.
Other actions included the granting of tenure to 17 Calvin College professors, reappointment of three professors to Calvin Seminary and reelection of Rev. Neal Plantinga, Jr. as seminary president with indefinite tenure.
