Floyd Mayweather Next Fight Date Announced, Who Will He Fight?

Floyd Mayweather has decided to fight Sept. 13 after contemplating an early retirement

Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's chief boxing promoter, made the announcement to ESPN recently.

"Floyd will go on Sept. 13 and we looking at who he's going to fight and where he's going to fight," Ellerbe told ESPN. "Obviously Las Vegas is his home and the MGM Grand is always the leading candidate, but we will take a look at our other options."

Marcos Maidana, the 30-year-old Argentinian boxer who has landed the most hits against Mayweather than anyone else, has been vocal about wanting a rematch against Mayweather. After Maidana insists he won the decision fight that went Mayweather's way, Ellerbe spoke about the possibilities.

"He's definitely in the mix. He's a very dirty fighter," Ellerbe told ESPN. " He used a lot of dirty tactics, but Floyd handled him easily and he gave the fans a great fight. But there's a long list of opponents. Everybody wants to be in the Floyd Mayweather sweepstakes."

While Mayweather,37, is the target of "several guys" who want to get in the ring with him, the official announcement about his next opponent will be made soon.

"We're looking at opponents now," Ellerbe told ESPN. "In the next two weeks we'll have that part figured out."

Maidana landed some unorthodox and illegal hits to Mayweather during the bout including headbutts and a hit to the groin area which did not go unnoticed by the undefeated boxer.

"I thought I was a boxer and he was a WWE wrestler," Mayweather said during his post-fight press conference.

Maidana insisted he wanted to give Mayweather a rematch.

"Hope to see you guys again in September," Maidana tweeted after his fight earlier this month. "I will give the rematch to Mayweather."
