Gavin Smith Missing, Search Continues for Hollywood Exec.

The search for 20th Century Fox distribution executive Gavin Smith has intensified Wednesday as the California sheriff's department summoned more help.

"The new development is that our department has added new resources to the search for the missing man," said sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore, according to City News Service. "I am not going to detail exactly what those resources are, but part of it was adding more detectives to the search."

Smith, 57, disappeared last week when he drove off without telling a friend where he was going and never returned. His wife reported him as missing last Wednesday when he failed to pick up his son from school.

Smith's family appeared on ABC News explaining that the movie executive would never abandon them.

"He would never do anything like that, he's a great father," said Evan Smith, Gavin's eldest son and basketball player at USC.

The family of the former UCLA basketball player has created a website, findgavinsmith.com, in order to expedite his return.

"Really what we are looking for is trying to get as many eyes out there looking for him," Smith's son told Fox 11. "We've been looking down the canyons, ravines, little creeks, rivers, all over the place."

The missing man is white, about six feet six inches tall, 210 pounds, green eyes, and gray hair with blonde highlights, as well as a goatee, and a 4-inch scar on his right inner wrist, according to the sheriff's department.

Also, authorities say Smith was driving his black 2000 Mercedes-Benz 420E with a storage rack on the roof, tinted windows and a California license plate with the number 6EKT044.

Evan Smith has taken his search to Twitter as well, spreading the word about his father's disappearance.

"Still looking for him, I'll never stop," the college student posted on Sunday.

"WOW. So many people have come to my family's side in these time of despair and confusion," Smith posted to the social media site Monday. "i thank each and everyone of you for you support."

Anyone with information about Smith's whereabouts are urged to contact detectives Abraham or Carnes at 323-890-5500.
