iPhone 4S Untethered Jailbreaking Finally Arrives With Absinthe A5

For iPhone 4S owners looking to jailbreak their handset with little to no complications, the new greenpoison tool might finally make this a reality.

This Mac-only application lets iPad2 and iPhone 4S owners' jailbreak their device without the need to tether it to a computer upon each reboot. This jailbreak can be used with both iPhone 4S running on iOS 5.0 build 9A334 and iOS 5.0.1 and iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1 build 9A405.

This was posted by the jailbreak community earlier this week and what it does is provide a solution for A5 driven devices running iOS 5 or iOS 5.0.1. This software is the long expected follow up to an untethered iOS 5.0.1 exploit for non-A5 devices released last Dec. This new jailbreak is called Absinthe A5.

For those unfamiliar with jailbreaking, it is the process of removing the limitations imposed by Apple on devices running the iOS operating system through the use of custom kernels. These devices include the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and 2nd generation Apple TV. It gives the users root access to the operating system, allowing iOS users to download additional apps, extensions and themes that are not available through the Apple store.

Under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, jailbreaking Apple devices is a legal practice in the U.S., but Apple has stated that it can violate warrantees.

iPhone 4S owners are experiencing their first chance to jailbreak their iPhone free of tethering making the process much more convenient.

The device debuted in October so jailbreaking it efficiently took quite some time for techies to figure out. It is currently one of the world's highest sold smartphones moving units in various countries across the globe.
