iPhone 7 Release Date Rumors: Apple Gearing Up for More Radical Changes?

Apple may be gearing up for more radical changes in the upcoming iPhone 7, based on the latest rumors.

The rumor mill is currently abuzz over the iPhone 7, which most believe will be coming out some time later this year in September. Among the speculated major changes in the upcoming devices are the absence of the headphone jack, waterproof feature, and wireless charging, according to Computer World.

Apple is reportedly planning to include a much less vertical bezel in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. This will be accomplished by removing the 3.5-mm headphone jack, resulting in a much thinner 6.1-mm smartphone. The Indian Express suggests that the device could either have headphones that can be plugged into the Lightning charging port or Bluetooth headphones.

A report from Fast Company says the new Apple device will use the Lightning port for the sound output. Wolfson Microelectronics' noise-cancelling feature will also be incorporated into the new iPhone.

Another rumored radical change that Apple may be looking to implement is the ditching of the all-metal design and metal frame seen in the iPhone 6s. Japan-based blog Macotakara says the Cupertino firm has been testing iPhone 7 with dustproof and waterproof features.

When it comes to the display of the iPhone 7, there are reports saying Apple has tapped Samsung and LG Display for the device's organic light emitting diode (OLED) screens. This type of screen is thinner and has better picture quality compared with the liquid crystal display screens, the report explains.

If rumors prove to be true, Apple fans will be able to choose from three size variants of the iPhone 7, with the regular unit sporting a 4.7-inch display. The iPhone 7 Plus, on the other hand, will come with a 5.5-inch screen, and the third variant will include a 4-inch screen.

As of now, there is still no confirmed release date for the iPhone 7. More details about Apple's upcoming smartphone are expected to emerge in the coming months.
