Jeremy Lin News: Beef With Kenyon Martin Now Resolved
Former Brooklyn Nets player Kenyon Martin caused quite the controversy last week when he slammed Jeremy Lin for his deadlocks in a now-deleted Instagram video. He apologized to the Nets' point guard shortly after.
Speaking to the press after the Nets defeated the New York Knicks at Barclays Center, Lin shared that he and Martin have discussed the issue which he said was blown out of proportion.
Martin was extremely apologetic and courteous, Lin said. He even was impressed by how he handled the entire debacle. More importantly, Lin is sorry about how Martin as well as his son, a junior who plays for Chaminade High School in Los Angeles, had to deal with the public's comments. "Uneducated," "racist," and the n-word were among the insults that were thrown at the Martins, some of which were from Lin's fans.
"I'm just processing everything that's happening and kind of felt he was dehumanized to some degree," Lin told the press. "I wish it didn't happen like that, but we're beyond that and hopefully I don't have to speak about this incident or my hair anymore."
For the uninitiated, the controversy started when Martin posted a video commenting on Lin's announcement about wearing dreadlocks from now on.
In this clip, Martin claimed that Lin wants to be black but emphasized that his name is Lin. From there, Lin responded that he wears dreadlocks for the same reason that KMart has Chinese characters tattooed on his arms.
Since it is easy to mistake Martin's statements as racist, netizens were quick to point that out to the former baller. In a video submitted to TMZ, he issued an apology to Lin, wherein he claimed that his intentions had nothing to do with race and that he only found it funny that the Nets' point guard wears his hair in dreadlocks.
Lin has urged fans to stop obsessing over the issue.
