Jersey Devil Monster Photographed in New Jersey Pinelands — Real or Hoax?

The Jersey Devil Monster has reportedly been caught on camera in the New Jersey Pinelands, but the public is still torn on whether to consider the sighting real or just a hoax.

Residents of Galloway Township in New Jersey have been talking about the mysterious winged creature that was photographed and caught on video flying through the Pinelands. The cryptid, called the Jersey Devil Monster, has largely remained a legend until lately, when a local security guard reported a sighting of the creature, according to iDigital Times.

Dave Black, a resident of Little Egg Harbor Township, recalled how he was driving past the Galloway golf course on Route 9 when he caught sight of what he first thought was a llama. In his email to NJ.com, Black said he saw the creature running in the woods, then suddenly stretched out its leathery wings and flew into the air.

Because Black himself thought his eyes were just tricking him, he took out his phone and took photos of the winged creature. It was only when the creature disappeared that it dawned on Black that what he saw was the Jersey Devil Monster.

After Black's sighting was published on NJ.com, a report about another Jersey Devil Monster surfaced. A New Jersey resident named Emily sent a video clip allegedly showing the cryptid caught on video. The footage was accompanied by a message from Emily describing the creatures as a "red animal with a long neck and horns."

Emily, who claims to be a middle school teacher, said she was on her way home from Leeds Point when she saw the Jersey Devil Monster. But the creature flew away when she began taking the video.

The legend of the Jersey Devil Monster goes back to the 1700s when a woman called Mother Leeds gave birth to her 13th baby on a dark night. Some say the child she bore was the fruit of a Satanic activity, because the woman was known to practice witchcraft, Discovery reports.

The baby later on grew wings and transformed into a horse-like creature, and killed a midwife as it flew into the night sky. The creature is reportedly hiding in the woods to this day and its story remains well circulated during campfires.

The existence of the Jersey Devil Monster has not yet been confirmed. For now, the public can just enjoy figuring out if the reports are real or if they are just part of one big Halloween prank.
