Katie Couric Apologizes, Defends Herself Against Kim Kardashian Lashing

Katie Couric, the journalist and television host, is offering reality television star Kim Kardashian an apology after the latter publicly lashed out at her.

After Kardashian, 32, caught wind of comments that Couric made questioning her popularity, she took to Twitter to lash out at the host of "Katie."

"#IHateFakeMediaFriends #MayIHumblySuggestYouNotSendGiftsThenTalk (Expletive)," Kardashian captioned an Instagram photograph of a gift Couric sent for her new baby with rapper boyfriend Kanye West.

However, Couric offered a public apology soon after Kardashian spoke out against her.

"I've met Kim before and I think she's a really sweet person," Couric told E! News.

The veteran journalist upset Kardashian after speaking to In Touch Weekly about not understanding her level of fame.

"I don't understand-why are they so famous," Couric questioned.

However, she recently defended her comments.

"I was responding to a reporter's question, and explaining how I'm intrigued by the public's fascination with her family. I didn't mean to hurt her feelings," Couric told E!. "The gift is genuine, and I'm happy for Kim and Kanye."

Kardashian seems to be growing unhappy with her level of fame lately. One week before giving birth on June 15, the reality television star released a Twitter rant about wanting more privacy.

"I wouldn't let the paps get a pic of me today & they threatened my life & said if I continue to block shots then they will make my world dangerous to live in! How dare they threaten my life & my unborn child," Kardashian tweeted. "This has gotten way out of control (SIC)."

The reality television star went on to detail a situation that she called scary.

"Yesterday 4 cars boxed me in. One in front, behind, & one on each side just to have me drive at their speed so they can snap through the window," she tweeted. "Its really so scary what they are legally allowed to get away with."

The new mother said she needed a break from the constant snapping of cameras that she has become accustomed to.

"I get I live a public life. I live my life on a reality show for the world to see," she tweeted. "I love my life, but when the cameras stop, that doesn't mean I don't want a break too. I'm 32 yrs old now, about to be a mom. I'm not 25 clubbing around LA anymore. There's no excuse for threats & stalking! (SIC)"
