Man Saves Woman Who Jumped From Oakland Coliseum; Marine Vet Called a Hero

Two people were seriously injured at the end of the Oakland Raiders-Tennessee Titans game on Sunday after a woman jumped from the third level of the Oakland Coliseum and a Marine veteran attempted to catch her. Neither have been identified by the press, but people are calling him a hero for attempting to save her life.

"He put himself in a lot of risk and right now, he is in the hospital paying the price for it," Alameda County Sheriff's Sgt. J.D. Nelson told CNN.

The woman was believed to have tried to commit suicide, even though others around her tried to discourage her from doing so.  The Marine veteran happened to see her falling and used his own body to break her landing, which could have killed her, given that it was so high up. Unfortunately, he was severely injured, but thankfully both are expected to survive.

"There are not a lot of people who would have done what he did," Nelson said. "He saved her life quite honestly, at his own expense," he told ESPN. "This guy 100 percent saved her life. She'd be dead now."

The former Marine had just purchased season tickets to watch his beloved Raiders and will hopefully get the chance to watch a few games after he is released from the hospital. His story is going viral, with many calling him a hero for trying to save the woman's life. She apparently suffered a head injury and was hospitalized in the intensive care unit on Sunday night.

"Marines are trained how to DEFLECT a fall like this to save life … he was not trying to catch her. Training kicked in and he saved a life. I salute him for making such a brave and honorable decision," CNN reader Dead Edward posted.

"As soon as I heard about this incident on the radio, I figured the guy was probably a Marine. Protecting others is in their character. God Bless him and the millions of other Marines and other military people who have protected us throughout our nation's history," added user krs1251.
