McNair Elementary Shooting: Alleged Gunman in Custody, No Reported Injuries (VIDEO)

Police have arrested a suspect in Dekalb County, Georgia after shots were fired at a local elementary school.

Video footage has revealed children running from McNair elementary school following reports that shots were being fired from within, said local news reports. A person within the school placed a direct call to Channel 2 Action News, claiming that the gunman had instructed her to do so. Shots could be heard in the background.

No injuries have been recorded at this. Children were quickly evacuated from the school and ushered to a nearby Wal-Mart where parents were told they could be retrieved, Channel 2 reported.

Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy, a charter elementary school, serves grades K-5th. A superintendent in the district has confirmed that a suspect was taken into custody. Michael Thurmond said in an interview with the Associate Press that a headcount was being conducted to insure that all students could be accounted for.

The shooting comes just one day before the national Day of Action, an attempt to gather supporters who are willing to pressure congress to pass more gun restriction laws. Sponsored by Organize for Action, multiple meetings have been planned across the country. The question posed to congress is: "What will it take to finally act to prevent gun violence?" Supporters for the day include parents who have lost children in previous school shootings.

President Obama showed support for the group with a Facebook post.

"This year, Congress had the chance to pass common-sense legislation that 9 out of 10 Americans said they wanted-but they failed to act," the post read with #WhatWillItTake and a list of three school shootings that have occurred, including the most recent at Sandy Hook Elementary.
