'Quantum Break' Release Date in April Brings PC Version Amid Backlash

Remedy Entertainment and Microsoft Studios have recently announced that "Quantum Break" will be coming to Windows 10 PC in April. While PC gamers might be rejoicing at this latest update, some console owners have expressed their disappointment at the title now that is no longer an Xbox One exclusive.

According to the joint announcement made through Xbox Newswire on Thursday, Feb. 11, "Quantum Break" will release on the Xbox One and Windows 10 PC on April 5. The PC version will be available for free to those who have already pre-ordered the title's Xbox One version.

The announcement has unexpectedly started a debate between Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Studios, and some Xbox One owners. These gamers have expressed concern that making "Quantum Break" playable on PC devalues their purchase. They also feel misled into having bought the Xbox One version when the studio had intended for the title to be available in PC as well. Had they known this would happen, these Xbox One owners felt there was no point in buying the console version over the PC version in the first place. In addition, they also feel that Microsoft will no longer be working as hard as it should on the Xbox One.

Spencer, however, denied these claims. He said making "Quantum Break" available to PC gamers will only be beneficial to everyone in the community in the long run. Regarding the timing of the announcement, he cited how the company's strategy has been evolving through the years and that they try to share updates as early as they can. As for those saying Microsoft won't put as much effort on Xbox One, Spencer said it's actually the opposite. Everyone in the company, "from the CEO down," is putting more focus on Xbox than they've ever had before.

Although it remains to be seen if other Xbox One-exclusive titles like "Gears of War" will follow suit, industry followers believe it's clear Microsoft is moving toward bringing cross-platform play to its games starting with "Quantum Break."
