RNC night 2: Jon Ponder pardon, Abby Johnson abortion conversion, Melania calls for unity

Ex-Planned Parenthood director shares conversion story

Former Planned Parenthood clinic manager Abby Johnson, now a prominent pro-life activist, detailed her conversion story as she urged Americans to re-elect Donald Trump — “the most pro-life President.”

The 40-year-old Texas native whose memoir was made into the 2019 pro-life movie "Unplanned" began her speech by recalling an encounter she had with a Planned Parenthood employee while she was in college.

“They talked about helping women in crisis and their commitment to keep abortion safe, legal, and rare,” she said.

She mentioned how that encounter caused her to volunteer for Planned Parenthood. Later, she was offered a full-time position and eventually promoted to director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Bryan, Texas.

In 2009, Johnson began to have second thoughts about her belief that she was “helping women” by working for the nation’s largest provider of abortions.

These reservations began when she said she was assigned an “abortion quota” and “expected to sell double the abortions performed the previous year.”

“When I pushed back, underscoring Planned Parenthood’s public-facing goal of decreasing abortions, I was reprimanded and told ‘abortion is how we make our money,’” she explained.

“The tipping point came a month later when a physician asked me to assist with an ultrasound-guided abortion,” she explained. “Nothing prepared me for what I saw on the screen: an unborn baby fighting back, desperate to move away from the suction.”

Johnson said the last thing she saw was “a spine twirling around in the mother’s womb before succumbing to the force of the suction.”

She said she quit her job at Planned Parenthood shortly after. Johnson went on to establish And Then There Were None, a nonprofit organization designed to help abortion workers “transition out of the industry.”

After she provided more gruesome details about the barbaric atmosphere of abortion clinics, Johnson began making the case for President Trump.

“He has done more for the unborn than any other president,” she declared.

She proceeded to list Trump’s pro-life accomplishments, including his efforts to curb government funding of abortion organizations and his appointment of pro-life judges to the judiciary.

“Life is a core tenet of who we are as Americans,” she argued. “This election is a choice between two radical anti-life activists and the most pro-life president we have ever had.”
