Southern Baptist Convention Opens with a Strong Fiscal Calendar
Contributions to the Cooperative Program up by 14.36 percent
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Contributions to the Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention increased nearly 15%, the SBC Executive Committee said, November 1.
According to Morris H. Chapman, the Chief Executive Officer of the Cooperative Program, the receipts during October 2003 amounted to $15,742,910 -- $1,977,374.88 above the $13,765,535.63 received in October 2002.
Because the SBC operates on an Oct. 1 – Sept. 30 fiscal calendar, the increase marks a strong start for a new year.
The Cooperative Program is the SBC’s method of supporting missions and ministry groups, such as the International Mission Board and the North American Missions Board.
Designated contributions collectively from individuals, churches, state conventions and fellowships include the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions, the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions, Southern Baptist World Hunger Fund and other special gifts.
