'Surrender' or 'de-escalation'? Officials react to Tom Homan pulling 700 immigration officers from Minnesota

Tim Walz
In a Wednesday X post reacting to the announcement, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the 2024 Democratic vice presidential candidate, declared that “Operation Metro Surge is not making Minnesota safer."
“Today's announcement is a step in the right direction, but we need a faster and larger drawdown of forces, state-led investigations into the killings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, and an end to this campaign of retribution,” Walz stated.
Tensions escalated following the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen who was shot last month during a confrontation with federal immigration officers. The shooting comes not long after an ICE officer shot Renee Good, which federal officials claimed was an act of self-defense.
The shooting incidents and immigration enforcement tactics used in Minnesota have sparked a debate among Americans about the use of force and how to address the issue of illegal immigration.
