Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey contends that removing 700 federal agents while 2,000 still remain “isn’t a de-escalation" and renewed his demand for federal immigration operations to halt entirely. However, the mayor acknowledged that the drawdown and the requirement that federal officers in Minneapolis wear body cameras are “a step in the right direction.”

"My message to the White House has been consistent — Operation Metro Surge has been catastrophic for our residents and businesses. It needs to end immediately,” Frey said in a statement.

ICE and CBP have carried out Operation Metro Surge since December 2025 to apprehend criminal illegal aliens, arresting thousands of criminal illegal aliens in Minneapolis, including gang members, murderers and individuals who had harmed children.
