'The Powerpuff Girls' Reboot News: Subtle Changes Introduced to Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup

The reboot of the well-loved animated Cartoon Network series, "The Powerpuff Girls" has finally arrived, and this generation of young girls are treated to the new adventures of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup with a new tone and energy.

In an interview with Turner, the mother company of Cartoon Network, the new showrunner of "The Powerpuff Girls," Nick Jennings, said that the reboot will feature subtle improvements to the look of the well-loved superheroes of the girls of past generations. For instance, while Blossom still wears a bow, the bow is now more rounded at the edge. The reimagined Bubbles also maintains her signature pigtails, but they are arranged a little higher than the original that she sported. In the case of Buttercup, she now looks a bit punkish, thanks to her bunch of spiky hair.

However, the subtle changes to the show are not only limited to appearance of how Buttercup, Blossom, and Bubbles. The reboot also gives the show a more serious tone, according to Jennings via Wired.

"The original series was more of a bigger, broader comedy, and the girls relied on fighting monsters to move story along. Now a lot of the shows we produce are more sincere, character-driven stories," she said.

In a separate interview with Los Angeles Times, Jennings said that giving the show a bit of a serious tone will pave the way for its audience to understand the characters in a better light and for the show to come up with stories that can provide a better link to its viewers.

"By developing [Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles] as stronger personalities and understanding them more as characters, we were able to write stories that are more relatable to people," Jennings explained.

Along with the changes, a new set of talents have lent their voices to the characters of the Cartoon Network series, except for Tom Kenny who will voice the Mayor of Townsville anew. However, in the case of the Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, they now deliver their dialogues via the voices of Amanda Leigh, Kristen Li, and Natalie Palamides, respectively.
