The Titan sub had an estimated 96 hours of life support. As officials told CNN Thursday, the Titan sub also had limited food and water rations, and the confined space left the passengers with little room to stretch out. 

OceanGate co-founder Guillermo Söhnlein told the outlet that the "window available" for rescue was longer than "what most people think." However, he added that Thursday is a "critical day in this search and rescue mission." 

Söhnlein noted that knowing about the limited oxygen supply, the crew would have likely tried to extend it by remaining relaxed.
