Trump's week in review: Vows to use veto power, cut $4B aid to Israel and Melania brokers ceasefire
2. Trump announces the US will stop giving $4 billion annual aid to Israel
The Iran War, which has often been cited as among the reasons for Republicans’ poor performance in the 2026 midterm elections, came up during Trump’s appearance on “Fox & Friends” Tuesday. After Trump maintained that “We give Israel $4 billion a year,” the president announced that the U.S. “made a deal months ago that we’re stopping.”
“They’re fine with it,” he added. “They’ve become a very successful country. They don’t need it.”
The president vowed that “by the end of this year, we won’t be paying Israel,” while stressing, “We’ll help Israel if they need it.” He noted that U.S. aid to Israel was becoming a “bad talking point,” asking, “Why should we suffer the slings from lunatics like [Michigan U.S. Senate candidate Abdul] El-Sayed when they don’t need it?”
When asked if he would give Israel the option to “buy the weapons,” Trump said they would be able to do so.
After the midterms, Vice President J.D. Vance reacted to the results in an X post by declaring: “The reason we lost is the war.”
He added, “If you’d like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that’s at least honest.”
