4. USCIS documents fraud within the Special Immigrant Juvenile program
In a statement Thursday, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced the findings of a report highlighting the prevalence of "Criminality, Gangs, and Program Integrity Concerns in Special Immigrant Juvenile Petitions." The report documented fraud within the Special Immigrant Juvenile program, which, as explained by USCIS Spokesman Matthew Tragresser, is designed to protect "abused, neglected, or abandoned alien children."
The report examined more than 300,000 Special Immigrant Juvenile program petitions filed from 2013 through February 2025, discovering that more than half of those who sought protection under the program in fiscal year 2024 were over the age of 18 and therefore not eligible for it.
Most of the 853 known or suspected gang members who filed petitions had them approved, and many seeking admission to the U.S. under the program came from countries known to pose a national security threat to the U.S.
Seven weeks before the report's publication, the Trump administration rescinded the policy of categorically considering deferred action for special immigrant juveniles. Tragresser identified the report as evidence of "how the open border lobby and activist judges are exploiting loopholes in the name of aiding helpless children."
