4. Trump briefed on multiple options to strike Iran
The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that Trump has been briefed on multiple options for striking Iran as unrest continues. U.S. government officials who spoke with the publication detailed how the strike options presented to the president would all have the effect of weakening the Iranian regime and its proxies to varying degrees.
Another source who spoke to The Wall Street Journal indicated that Trump has not yet decided whether to strike Iran. Discussion about whether or not to strike Iran comes as U.S. military units are arriving in the Middle East amid U.S. attempts to negotiate with Iran regarding its nuclear program.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed rumors that Trump plans to conduct military action against Iran by stressing that “The president has always been very clear, though, with respect to Iran or any country around the world, diplomacy is always his first option, and Iran would be very wise to make a deal with President Trump and with this administration.”
“He’s always thinking about what’s in the best interest of the United States of America, of our military, of the American people, and that’s how he makes decisions with respect to military action,” she said.
