The Reverend Franklin Graham, head of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse, took to social media to remember the anniversary.

In a post to his official Facebook page on Thursday morning, Graham noted that the event was “the beginning of the turning point of World War 2.”

He also quoted from a prayer given by then President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to the nation at large, in which the former commander-in-chief called the invasion “a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity.”

“And, O Lord, give us Faith. Give us Faith in Thee; Faith in our sons; Faith in each other; Faith in our united crusade,” prayed FDR, as quoted by Graham.

“Lead us to the saving of our country, and with our sister Nations into a world unity that will spell a sure peace a peace invulnerable to the schemings of unworthy men.”
