The Rt. Rev. Daniel G. P. Gutiérrez of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania, a native of New Mexico who became a bishop in 2016, is also a nominee for presiding bishop.

Before becoming a bishop, Gutiérrez helped grow and rebuild churches in the Albuquerque-based Episcopal Diocese of the Rio Grande, where he served in various positions.

According to his official biography, the bishop has held several secular offices, including chief of staff to the mayor of Albuquerque, director of economic development and adjunct professor of political consulting and marketing at the University of New Mexico. He launched Mensajes, a marketing and political consulting company, in 1998.

He also chaired the Social Justice and International Policy Committee for the denomination's General Convention in 2022 and will continue in that role in 2024. 

Gutiérrez earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science and history and a master of public administration from the University of New Mexico. He also earned a diocesan certificate in Anglican Studies via the Trinity School for Ministry and a master's in Theological Studies from St. Norbert College.

He is married to Suzanne Fletcher Gutiérrez and is a father to his son, Jude.
