Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime Specs, Release Date: Higher-End Midranger From Chinese Company Hitting India Soon?

Since launching the Xiaomi Mi3 in India a year ago, the Chinese company has had a huge following in the Asian subcontinent. And so its succeeding devices have also become successful in the Indian market.

Now, it seems Xiaomi will be giving India a special treatment for the release of a specially-designed device.

According to a report by Phone Arena, the Android phone maker is planning to launch a beefier and more powerful version of the Redmi 2 in the Asian country. Dubbed as the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime, the device will allegedly boast a 4.7-inch display with HD (1280 x 720) resolution, 2GB of RAM and a 16GB of built-in memory.

In the report, the device has allegedly been launched in China earlier this year as the "Enhanced Edition" of the Xiaomi Redmi 2. Some speculations also point to the device as the Redmi Note 2. It is also worth noting that the mysterious device has already appeared on Amazon India for a brief period of time.

Other specs of the device include a quad-core CPU, a Snapdragon 410 chipset that supports 64-bit applications, an 8MP primary camera, 2MP front shooter, and a microSD card slot.

Completing the alleged specs list is Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box, a 2,200mAh battery, and MIUI 6.

Xiaomi will reportedly launch the device in the coming days, given that the Redmi 2 Prime's sale page has accidentally been set up by Amazon India.

Aside from India, the Chinese manufacturer is also doing well in most parts of Southeast Asia, where it is sold at local retailers. Another popular handset from the Chinese manufacturer is the Mi 4i, which was only announced several weeks ago.

In spite the success Xiaomi is experiencing right now, its VP Hugo Barra previously mentioned in a statement that the company won't launch smartphones in the U.S. until a few more years.
