Zach Galifianakis has quit drinking following a dramatic confrontation with two large men, according to the actor, who gave an interview to late night talk show Conan O'Brien this week.

Galifianakis, who is one of the stars of The Hangover series of films, explained on the talk show on Wednesday night how he had gotten drunk after a night out. As he was crossing the road he hit the hood of a Jaguar.

The actor described how two huge men then got out of the car, extremely angry at Galifianakis' actions.

He explained that they were "two 6-foot-6 guys — 12-by-12."

In the resulting altercation one of the large men spat in Galifianakis' face, shocking the actor and comedian.

Galifianakis said to O'Brien: "I don't know if you've ever been spit in your face, non-sexually…"

The actor married fiancée, Quinn Lundberg, in a ceremony last August. The nuptials were said to have been relatively low key, but did see some famous guests attend, including Hangover co-stars Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms.

The couple had been dating for about two years prior to the wedding, and they had been engaged only since June 2012 before tying the knot in August.

Galifianakis will star in the latest installment of the popular movie series The Hangover, with the third part of the series scheduled to be released nationwide on May 24. The third installment in believed to be the final film in the franchise.

The film will no doubt follow a similar theme as the first two, although the film will be set in Las Vegas this time.

The promotional material for The Hangover 3 states: "This time, there's no wedding. No bachelor party. What could go wrong, right? But when the Wolfpack hits the road, all bets are off."
