Boxing Rumors 2015: Amir Khan Reportedly Agrees to Fight Pacman in April
After a recent media rant about him being left out of a potential fight against Manny Pacquiao, it looks like British boxer Amir Khan will fight the Filipino boxing star after all. The fight against his former sparring partner will be in the welterweight division and is anticipated to be held early next year.
The 28-year-old former champion from Bolton managed to fight only once in 2015 after waiting out on the more lucrative fights out there, including that of Floyd Mayweather, Jr., who by the way recently claimed he's retired, and Pacquiao.
But it is still unclear if whether or not the paperwork has already been signed.
Several U.K. media outlets also claim that the fight has, in fact, been verbally agreed with the two camps on the same page when it comes to the venue. Earlier reports said that "Pacman's" camp wanted to stage a promotion in Dubai, but as previously observed in the Filipino's last couple of fights, it is likely that this one will be in the United States.
Meanwhile, Khan's father, Shah, also claims that everything has already been ironed out. "Our paperwork went off to Arum on Friday and every point is covered," he said.
However, Dan Rafael of ESPN reported that Bob Arum refuted the claim of the camp of Khan. "I haven't sent a contract to him. We haven't sent anything to him," vehemently denying any agreement with the British boxer.
Although Khan is not as big a name compared to that of Pacquiao, a fight between these two popular fighters will certainly generate a lot of interest, especially with the fact that they sparred together in Freddie Roach's Wild Card Boxing Gym.
But Khan will categorically be in the most difficult fight of his life in facing Pacquiao. Although the Filipino lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr., it is still expected that he'll come out next year as the betting favorite. The British former champion is trained by Virgil Hunter, while the "Pacman" is handled by longtime trainer Freddie Roach.
