'Hellboy' News: Daniel Dae Kim in Talks to Replace Ed Skrein's Role

The network and producers of "Hawaii Five-0" suffered the loss of Daniel Dae Kim from the cast, after they were unable to treat him as an equal of the series' protagonist. He left on grounds of discrimination, citing that the show runners had been unwilling to raise his pay at the same level as Alex O'Loughlin's.

However, it seems that Kim did not have to wait long before taking on a new role as recent reports reveal that he will be taking over Ed Skrein's role in "Hellboy."

Variety reports that he is currently in talks with the producers of the "Hellboy" reboot, which will have David Harbour take on the role of the film's hero. The role that Kim will receive was previously held by Skrein, who left the roster after the "Hellboy" reboot faced backlash.

Fans of the universe claimed that the directors were whitewashing the film, especially considering Skrein's supposed role was played by an Asian based on the books.

"It is clear that representing this character in a culturally accurate way holds significance for people, and that to neglect this responsibility would continue a worrying tendency to obscure ethnic minority stories and voice in the Arts. I feel it is important to honor and respect that," Skrein said in a statement announcing his departure, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Lionsgate, who will produce "Hellboy," agreed with his statement, emphasizing that they have realized the importance of accurately and aptly representing the characters of the universe they are working in.

Meanwhile, Kim exited CBS' "Hawaii Five-0" with co-star Grace Park earlier this year after he was unable to settle on a deal with the network. Although his role in "Hellboy" has yet to be confirmed, fans have expressed their approval on the Lionsgate's choice.

There is no specific release date yet for "Hellboy," but fans are expecting to see it in cinemas next year.
