'Lion King' Live-Action Remake Cast News: Migos Vying for Three Hyenas Role

The rap group Migos would like to join Disney's live-action remake of "Lion King." One of its members posted a message on social media asking Disney to consider them in the role of the hyenas.

Quavo asked Disney on Twitter to call them for the "Lion King" roles. Fans received the casting suggestion positively with over 89,500 likes and 49,000 retweets as of press time.

Migos grew popular in 2013 with their breakout hit "Versace." The trio collaborated with hip-hop and R&B hit makers like Drake and Kanye West. Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff also recently won the Best Group plum at the BET Awards for 2017.

Disney, however, recently confirmed the cast of the "Lion King" live-action with Danny Glover (Simba), Beyonce (Nala), James Earl Jones (Mufasa), Alfre Woodward (Sarabi), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar), Seth Rogen (Pumbaa), Billy Eichner (Timon), John Oliver (Zazu) and John Kani (Rafiki). The roles of the three hyenas went to Eric André, Florence Kasumba, and Keegan-Michael Key.

Much of the movie will make use of digital effects to bring the characters to life. Rob Legato will work on the movie's CGI as Disney's VFX supervisor. He previously worked on the live-action version of "Jungle Book" (2016) and will make use of the same process to create the scenes in "Lion King."

"The ability to re-create anything and re-create it faithfully is the future of cinema," Legato told a panel last spring. "You shouldn't be aware that we were using a computer to make the movie."

Jon Favreau, who directed "Jungle Book," will also helm this remake. The film will feature the same songs from Hans Zimmer as the 1994 animated original but it's likely new songs will find its way in the new film.

Production of "Lion King" began over the summer in a Los Angeles studio. Favreau shared some clips of what has been shot so far during Disney's annual D23 Expo last June. The "Lion King" live-action will be in theaters in July 2019.
