Nick Young Indispensed for 8 Weeks Due to Thumb Surgery

Los Angeles Lakers guard Nick Young is going to be out for eight weeks recovering from his surgery on his torn thumb ligaments. Young had his successful surgery Monday.

Young sustained the injury during a practice Thursday last week while he was guarding Kobe Bryant. The player underwent an MRI exam Friday which revealed the tear while the surgery was performed by Dr. Steven Shin of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthapaedic Clinic.

"It hurts us, as far as that's a guy that we know that can come off the bench and provide instant offense for us. Obviously, we're going to have to look elsewhere for that … It hurts us," said Lakers coach Byron Scott of Young's injury.

"I really looked at our roster and thought we had 10 to 12 guys that I thought were really good at what we could do," Scott added. "We were going to have a really balanced rotation, but sometimes you have to make adjustments."

Last season, Young was the Lakers' leading scorer, scoring 17.9 points per game. The player re-signed with the Lakers in July earlier this year with a four-year $21.5 million contract.

Meanwhile, Steve Nash is looking healthy enough after their exhibition match Monday.

"It's been a crazy drive for me. Maybe I'm starting to get to the other side of it … but it's very tenuous. It's such a monster to me over the last 18 months or two years that I'm not conceding anything to that beast," Nash said.
