Robert De Niro Cements Place in History
Robert De Niro has both figuratively and physically cemented has status as an iconic actor in Los Angeles on Monday.
The "Silver Linings Playbook" star took his place in acting history in front of Hollywood's famous Chinese Theatre where he placed his hands and feet in concrete before a crowd.
During a short thank you speech, the double Oscar Award-winner made a few quips.
"[Actor] Joe Pesci always said I'd end up with my feet in cement," started De Niro. "I don't think this is what he had in mind."
The 69-year-old actor continued, "They say everyone in the film industry has three homes- the home where they live, the home where their first wife lives, and Hollywood. I love New York, and I'm proud to be a citizen of Hollywood. Thank you for this honor and thank you for making me feel at home here."
De Niro's prolific career began in the 1960s before he achieved stardom in the 1970's with films such as "Taxi Driver" and "The Deer Hunter."
The actor is perhaps best known for his role as Vito Corleone in 1974's "The Godfather: Part II" which earned him his first Oscar Award. He also appeared in "Goodfellas" as well as "The Good Shepherd," among many others.
In 1980, De Niro scored his second Academy Award for "Raging Bull."
The founder of the Tribeca Film Festival is also a favorite for his role in 1999's "Analyze This" and the comedy "Meet the Parents."
Today, De Niro is up for s third Oscar Award for his role in "Silver Linings Playbook."
His decorated career also includes receiving the AFI Life Achievement Award and the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award.
Currently, the actor is working on the film "Grudge Match" which will also star Sylvester Stallone and Kim Basinger, according to CBS News.
