'Super Star Wars' Classic Releases to PS4

"Super Star Wars," a classic 16-bit era side-scroller from LucasArts, has recently been made available for PS4.

The critically-acclaimed classic LucasArts SNES title, "Super Star Wars," has been remastered for current generation consoles, with fans of the 16-bit side-scroller now able to enjoy it via Sony's PlayStation 4.

Launched in 1992, "Super Star Wars" has been prepped in time for the arrival of "Star Wars: Episode VII," which is expected to premiere in theaters on December 18.

Revamped for the PS4's 1080p output, the remastered "Super Star Wars" will come with additional options for the controller, leaderboards, and trophies, as well as a new save feature. For 90s gamers who have enjoyed the SNES side-scroller, the save feature comes as a bonus, given how difficult gameplay is, with players dying a number of times for any character's role they take on.

"Super Star Wars" allows players to play the roles of a number of "Star Wars" characters, including Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca. Each character comes with separate challenges and a variety of levels, as well as different vehicles.

The game also included a Tatooine segment set in the desert planet, and a trench run on the Death Star with the Luke Skywalker character.

A number of key locations in the movies are also present in the game, with players having the ability to travel to each, as well as make use of some of the movies' popular weapons, including a lightsaber, the DL-44 blaster pistol popularized by Han Solo, and Chewbacca's bowcaster.

Sony and LucasArts are also enabling a cross-buy for the title, which means players who use their PlayStation Vita account to purchase the game at its $9.99 price point will also be able to access "Super Star Wars" on PS4.

The classic game's release on Sony home consoles and portable gaming devices comes just soon after Electronic Arts and DICE launched its "Star Wars: Battlefront" third-person shooter, which debuted with a $60 price tag on Tuesday.
