5. Trump announces meeting with Putin in Hungary
In a statement posted on Truth Social Thursday, Trump said had just concluded a "very productive" phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin that discussed the ongoing efforts to bring an end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
"At the conclusion of the phone call, we agreed that there will be a meeting of our High Level Advisors, next week," Trump wrote.
"The United States' initial meetings will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, together with various other people, to be designated," Trump noted. "A meeting location is to be determined. President Putin and I will then meet in an agreed upon location, Budapest, Hungary, to see if we can bring this 'inglorious' War, between Russia and Ukraine, to an end."
Trump outlined his intention to hold a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office on Friday. He indicated that the meeting with Zelensky will center on his "conversation with President Putin, and much more."
Trump and Putin last met in Alaska in August.
