Debris from the balloon brought ashore in South Carolina
The U.S. Navy and Coast Guard are dotting the Carolina coast with ships searching for debris after the balloon was shot down by military aircraft on Saturday afternoon.
On Monday, video footage provided to local news outlet WMBF showed military officials loading debris from the balloon onto a boat at a boat landing in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
A senior military official told the news outlet that Navy and Coast Guard ships were in the area, establishing a perimeter to search for debris.

Local police warned people not to touch debris that may wash ashore.
"Pieces of this balloon are being collected by the US military however it is possible some of those pieces may wash ashore," the North Myrtle Beach Police Department stated in a Facebook post Saturday. "Any stray pieces are expected in the NC area but could wash ashore in NMB. If a piece is located please contact your local law enforcement agency for collection. Debris should not be touched, moved, or removed. Such items are part of a federal investigation and tampering with them could interfere with that investigation."
