5 things to know about the suspect charged with Israeli Embassy murders

2. Worked as a history researcher at HistoryMakers

A cached version of the website for Chicago-based nonprofit HistoryMakers shows that Rodriguez was an oral history researcher for the organization and received a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

The HistoryMakers site, which documents African-American history, said Rodriguez "enjoys reading and writing fiction, live music, film, and exploring new places." His profile page is no longer active on the website.

In response to Rodriguez's arrest, HistoryMakers released a statement on its website that condemned the shooting at the Capital Jewish Museum and said Rodriguez worked for the organization for only "a short time."

"As the nation's largest African American video oral history archive that has spent a quarter of a century championing lost voices, we were horrified to learn that someone who worked for us a short time was responsible for this heinous act," the statement read.

"We never have and never will support or condone violence of any kind. We extend our deepest, deepest sympathy to the victims' loved ones and others impacted by this heartbreaking tragedy, and we pray that we are able as a nation to stop these senseless acts of violence and live safely, without fear."
