Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., stated in a Thursday X post that he “fully support[s] President Trump’s Pro-Life, Pro-Family agenda, but the FDA approving one more tool to kill babies is a betrayal.” The Republican senator is the chair of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which oversees the FDA.

“This is not what Commissioner Makary and Secretary Kennedy indicated they would do in their confirmation hearings,” Cassidy added.

Last month, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said in a letter to Republican attorneys general that the FDA would review the safety of mifepristone, CBS News reported.

In June, FDA Commissioner Marty Makary vowed in a letter to Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., that he would conduct a full review of the chemical abortion drug mifepristone.

“As the Commissioner of Food and Drugs, I am committed to conducting a review of mifepristone and working with the professional career scientists at the Agency who review this data,” Makary assured Hawley. “As with all drugs, the FDA continues to closely monitor the postmarketing safety data on mifepristone for the medical termination of early pregnancy.”
