3. Gretchen Whitmer
In October 2020, Adam Fox, Barry Croft, Ty Garbin, Kaleb Franks, Daniel Harris and Brandon Caserta were arrested for allegedly orchestrating a plot to kidnap Michigan’s Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
As detailed in a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, the perpetrators conducted surveillance of Whitmer’s vacation home on two occasions and discussed multiple other plans for kidnapping the governor, but none came to fruition.
Two of the individuals arrested in connection with the kidnapping plot, Fox and Croft, appealed their convictions to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. They maintained that they were entrapped by FBI agents. The initial complaint against the defendants notes that the FBI obtained information about the kidnapping plot as a result of a “Confidential Human Source.”
The Sixth Circuit’s decision, which upheld Fox and Croft’s convictions, detailed how FBI agents posed as individuals interested in joining their group, the Wolverine Watchmen.
