6 times Democrats were killed, beaten or threatened in targeted attacks
6. Melissa Hortman
On June 14, Minnesota State House Speaker Melissa Hortman, a Democrat, was shot and killed at her home by Vance Luther Boelter. Hortman’s husband was also killed in the attack.
Vance Luther Boelter is a former pastor and an appointee to the Governor's Workforce Development Board. He was named to the board by both Democratic Govs. Tim Walz and Mark Dayton.
While Boelter also shot Democratic Minnesota State Sen. John Huffman and his wife, they survived.
Following the attack, Boelter’s roommate told The Wall Street Journal that he was very religious and pro-life and voted for Republican President Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election.
According to reports published following the political assassination of Hortman and the attempted assassination of Hoffman, Boelter left behind a vehicle containing a list of other targets, including other public officials and pro-abortion activists.
