Paul Pelosi, the husband of U.S. House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., was attacked at their home in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco by David DePape on Oct. 28, 2022.

DePape, an illegal immigrant from Canada who had been living in the U.S. for two decades, hit Mr. Pelosi with a hammer.

The criminal complaint against DePape, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleged that DePape broke into the house and requested to speak with “Nancy.” He vowed that if the then-House Speaker told DePape the “truth,” he would “let her go,” while if she “lied,” he would break “her kneecaps.”

Independent journalist and former California gubernatorial candidate Michael Shellenberger reported on his Substack account that DePape “lived with a notorious local nudist in a Berkeley home, complete with a Black Lives Matter sign in the window and an LGBT rainbow flag, emblazoned with a marijuana symbol, hanging from a tree.”

Shellenberger added, “a closer look reveals the characteristics of a homeless encampment, or what Europeans call an ‘open drug scene.’”

According to the complaint, DePape expressed politically-motivated hostility toward Pelosi, maintaining confidence that Pelosi would not tell the “truth” and identifying her as a “leader of the pack” of lies told by the Democratic Party. The complaint stated that “DePape also later explained that by breaking Nancy’s kneecaps, she would then have to be wheeled into Congress, which would show other members of Congress there were consequences to actions.”

Archived blog posts allegedly written by DePape feature warnings about “censorship, communism, big brother and pedophilia in schools” along with an insistence that “the narrative is to hate men and cater to women because women are more easily manipulated using group think.”

The blog posts also asserted that “the elites/ruling class never censor themselves,” adding, “You can still turn on any mainstream news channel to hear day and night the narrative put forth by the people who rule you.”

“The founding [fathers] built in protection against censorship coming from the government because they never imagined a day when Tech giants and private industry would be so powerful they could single handedly silence the people,” the blog stated.
