Android 4.4 KitKat Update Could Be Rolling Out for Older Samsung Devices, Full List Leaks

The Android 4.4 KitKat update could be rolling out for a slew of older Samsung devices in the future.

A list of handsets that are under investigation to see if they are eligible to receive the software update by Samsung leaked earlier this month. It was quite long and included the Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy S3 mini, Galaxy S Advance, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy Core, Galaxy Fame, Galaxy Ace 2, and the Galaxy Fresh.

There are more devices on this list, but they weren't visible in the picture of the leaked document. This is currently just a list of devices under consideration, which means that all of them will not definitely run Android 4.4 KitKat in the future. The firmware was designed specifically to be able run on handsets with 512MB so it is possible that many these could get it.

Android 4.4 KitKat debuted on the Nexus 5 and was created to be installed on all sorts of Google OS devices including those with low-end specifications.

"KitKat streamlines every major component to reduce memory use and introduces new APIs and tools to help you create innovative, responsive, memory-efficient applications," said Google on its developer's website.

The software is designed to protect system memory from apps consuming large amounts of RAM. Android will launch the services serially, or in small groups in order to avoid peak memory demands.

New features on the OS include enhancements such as restyled status and navigation bars, a new full-screen mode, color emoji support, improved closed captioning support, stronger security, and an improved phone app with the ability to look up contacts directly from the dial pad.

The camera will gain a touch to focus feature as well.
