CM Punk Talks Early Days of Training for UFC

There have been a lot of opinions given about former WWE star Phil Brooks, also known as CM Punk, signing with the UFC. There was also speculation about where he would train for his much awaited debut. In the end, he chose Roufusport, which is coached by Duke Roufus and includes fighters like Dustin Ortiz, Anthony Pettis, and Sergio Pettis, among others.

According to MMAFrenzy, one reason why Brooks chose Roufusport was because the gym is close to his Chicago home, and the 36-year old reportedly said that he wants to train relatively close to his residence.

In an interview with AXS TV's "Inside MMA," Brooks talked about how his training has been going.

"I've just been trying to get acclimated to everybody on the team," said the former WWE star. "Duke hasn't thrown me to the wolves yet. I'm waiting for that. A lot of the one on one stuff with him, and Daniel the jiu-jitsu coach, and I watch a lot. I think I stay longer than I probably should every single day. I like watching everybody spar and just watching everybody move. It's been a very moving and growing experience for me, but it's been super educational and a lot of fun too."

Of Brooks' ability, Roufus said, "I think he's very good. What's impressed me the most about Punk is his attitude, his hunger and his work ethic. The guy is a sponge."

"What I like about this is that he comes to me with a very open mind, so I can mold him. He's trained, but he's really easy to mold. That's something I've done with Anthony Pettis, his brother, and the other guys who started from the beginning with us," added Roufus.

In the interview, Brooks said that he has lost a lot of weight while training and though middleweight has been suggested early on, his weight class is yet to be determined. He is expected to make his Octagon debut later in 2015.
