David Peaston Dies, Gospel Singer Mourned on Twitter (VIDEO)
Reports have indicated that David Peaston died Wednesday morning at the age of 54.
"With sadness we report that R&B/gospel singer David Peaston has passed," according to the online news source Electronic Urban Report.
"He was 54. Unfortunately, as of this posting, details of his death are not available. However, according to postings on his Facebook page, he died on Wednesday," continued EUR.
The singer is best known for the singles "Two Wrongs (Don't Make it Right)" and "Can I?" In 1990, Peaston was honored with a Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul or Rap New Artist.
During his adulthood, the artist was diagnosed with diabetes. As a result his legs were amputated, requiring Peaston to use prosthesis. EUR reported a note of remembrance from Peaston's friend, fellow singer Cheryl Pepsii Riley.
"David Peaston and I were, in the beginning, the only secular artists doing Gospel traveling plays," wrote Riley describing her friendship with the singer. "I soooo (sic) loved this man with the hearty laugh, great sense of humor, that incredible voice, and he was the most amazing friend!!!"
Riley said Peaston has a "gift that commanded the room," and offered her condolences to the family he left behind.
"This hurts so much," wrote Riley. "David will be sorely missed."
Many of Peaston's fans have taken to Twitter to express their mourning.
"An amazing singer & really nice guy," wrote Twitter user Donnie. "His versions of 'Can I' & 'God Bless The Child' were amazing. RIP."
Daniel wrote on the social media site, "This is not how I was expecting Black History Month to start off. RIP, David Peaston."
"Rest in peace David Peaston. He had such an incredible vouch. Thank you for the music Mr. Peaston," wrote Tammie.
Few details are known surrounding the singer's death, and are still pending.
