'DC Super Hero Girls' News: Target Gets Exclusive Rights To Upcoming Series' Merchandise

Series to debut on Boomerang in April

DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. Consumer Products, and Mattel have inked an agreement with Target for the "DC Super Hero Girls" merchandise. Target, one of America's biggest retail stores, will carry the merchandise that includes toys, apparel, accessories, publications, and many more, starting this March.

"Target prides itself on keeping a pulse on pop culture, and we have a legacy of getting behind the hottest franchises to bring our guests exclusive merchandise from their favorite movies, television shows and characters," said Scott Nygaard, Target's senior vice president of merchandising.

Comic Book reported it has also been announced that Boomerang will officially broadcast "DC Super Hero Girls," apart from the first animated special and digital shorts. The animated special created by Warner Bros. Animation and Playground Productions by Mattel will make its debut this spring.

Apart from Boomerang, girls aging six to 12, the show's target audience, can also watch the animated shorts on Cartoon Network's CN App. It was also reported that the first of made-for-video releases of the show will be made available by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment later this year.

Diane Nelson, president of DC Entertainment, said that the dolls, action figures and books that Target will sell carry with them stories of empowerment, inspiration, and optimism that every young girl can relate to.

"This program is changing the face of superhero culture, and we are really proud of that," she said.

Nelson is also the president of Warner Bros. Consumer Products and President & Chief Content Officer of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter said that the upcoming "DC Super Hero Girls," composed of Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Supergirl, and more, can boost the hold of DC on female superhero fans. Its "Supergirl" live-action series on CBS featuring Melissa Benoist in the title role is currently one of the most watched shows on TV. It is also scheduled to release the first ever standalone feature of Wonder Woman in 2017.

Target will only have the exclusive rights to the "DC Super Hero Girls" merchandise until July 2016. Other retail outlets will start carrying the merchandise after the contract of exclusivity expires.
