Google Nexus 7 Praised by The Wall Street Journal's Walt Mossberg

The Google Nexus 7 tablet will launch this month and The Wall Street Journal's veteran product reviewer Walt Mossberg recently praised the device, stating that it even beats the iPad in certain areas.

"Google's tablet is a better choice than the iPad for people on a budget; for those who prefer a lighter, more compact tablet that's easier to carry and operate with one hand; and those who prefer Google's ecosystem of apps, services and content to Apple's. Despite some drawbacks, I found it a pleasure to use," said Mossberg in his review of the Google Nexus 7.

He also believes that Google's new device far exceeds the capabilities of the Amazon Kindle Fire, and is a much better buy overall.

"The size and price advantages of the Nexus 7 are similar to those of the Kindle Fire, but the quality of the hardware and software in the new Google slate blows away those of the Fire," he added. "The latter is a chunky device that lacks a camera and microphone, and has a heavily modified version of Android, which can be sluggish."

In his opinion, the Nexus better represents the Android brand, and should since it is an official Google device.

"The Nexus 7 is a sleek, handsome tablet with smooth, quick, new version of Android," said Mossberg. "In my test, the battery life of the Nexus 7 exceeded the Fire's by a huge margin: Nearly five hours."

Other technology publications have also praised the Google Nexus 7 stirring up excitement for its official launch.

"Make no mistake; Nexus 7 is a game changer. Google has hit it out of the park this time," said 9to5 Google in its review of the tablet. "I have no doubt that Google's first Nexus Tablet will be the best-selling 7-inch tablet this summer and might actually give the iPad a run for its money if marketed well and in enough places."
