'Harry Potter 8' News, Update: Chris Columbus is Enthused to Direct A Sequel

The director of the first two "Harry Potter" movies, Chris Columbus, expressed his interest in doing a sequel which will take place after the events of "Deathly Hallows" Part 1 and 2.

Earlier this week, Columbus discussed his new film "Pixels."

The conversation eventually touched on the issue of having another big screen project which will continue to tell the tales of Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint). Apparently, there are still a lot of stories to tell about the trio.

"I would love to go back and do another one. Not 'Fantastic Beasts' as much, which I think is going to be amazing, but I would love to do another movie with those three characters — Harry, Hermione, and Ron," he told Entertainment Weekly. "I'm just fascinated about what happened to them after the end of the last movie, because then they cut to 18 years ahead. There's 18 years there of great 'Harry Potter' stories."

When asked further if he already brought up the matter to the author of the book series which the movies are based from, J.K. Rowling, Columbus admitted:

"I don't have the courage to actually mention that to her because I have such respect for her. She should do what she wants to do, but I really would love to know what's in her head about those missing years."
