iPhone 5 Release Rumors: Police Reviewing Video Footage in Missing Prototype Hunt

Apple is just weeks away from unveiling its new iPhone 5, and the prototype model that went missing in San Francisco last month still has not been found.

The San Francisco Police Department asked Cava 22, the bar that the prototype went missing in to provide the authorities with the surveillance footage, according to CNET.

The footage the police are requesting to examine is from July 21st and 22nd, which are not the days the iPhone went missing.

The police are reportedly looking into the surveillance video to see how the SFPD assisted Apple in the search of a home that was believed to have the iPhone inside.

According to Lt. Troy Dangerfield, spokesman for the SFPD, he was not aware that investigators had gone to the bar or were looking for the videos. He figured since Apple had not filed a police report, that there was no criminal investigation connected to the missing device.

“In order for there to be a crime, you need a victim,” Dangerfield said to CNET.

The request for the footage by police was likely part of the internal review launched this month by department officials into how police assisted Apple in search of a home on July 24, according to the Lieutenant.

It seems like the actual investigation for the missing iPhone needs its own investigation.

The missing prototype still has not been recovered.

Apple is planning to finally unveil the iPhone 5 on October 4.

The device will be presented by the company’s new CEO Tim Cook on its campus, according to the latest reports.

With the iPhone’s debut just weeks away, the company is probably less concerned with the whereabouts of the missing prototype.

No pictures or videos documenting the prototype have been released on the internet since the smartphone went missing.
