Top 5 Jasmine Crockett controversies: 'Abusing her power'
4. Verbal spat with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene: 'Bleach-blonde, bad-built, butch body'
A routine House Oversight Committee hearing in May 2024 about former Attorney General Merrick Garland descended into a viral moment when Crockett and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., started insulting each other over their personal appearances.
After Greene suggested Crockett's "fake eyelashes" were potentially impairing her reading ability, Crockett fired back by accusing Greene of having a "bleach-blonde, bad-built, butch body."
The exchange prompted backlash against both women, with Greene being accused of racism for highlighting Crockett's eyelashes and Crockett being accused of transphobia for using the word "butch."
Crockett said at the time she "meant no harm to anyone in the [LGBTQ] community," according to NPR. Others praised her clapback, which she later merchandised as "Crockett Clapback Collection" swag featuring her quotes.
So we are going to drop “A Crockett Clapback Collection.” This collection will feature various swag that includes random things I’ve said. The money will go to ensuring that we have a Democratic House! Give me a little time to really get the swag online etc., but B6 will drop… pic.twitter.com/7RnPQ4jVHs
