3. Juan Guaidó: 'Impunity ends. Justice matters'

Juan Guaidó, the former president of Venezuela’s National Assembly and figurehead of the 2019 opposition movement, described the capture as a turning point.

“March 26, 2020, Trump 45: The United States charges Maduro with narcoterrorism and offers a $15 million reward. August 7, 2025, Trump 47: the reward is raised to $50 million. January 3, 2026: Captured,” he wrote on X.

“Impunity ends. Justice matters. Democracy is coming,” Guaidó added.

Guaidó declared himself interim president in 2019 after Maduro claimed victory in a widely disputed election, though his influence diminished following his removal from office by the opposition-controlled National Assembly in 2022.

His reaction to the U.S. raid signaled renewed hope among Maduro’s political opponents that international pressure may finally lead to institutional change.
