Michael Schumacher Update: Former Ferrari Boss Says That Shumacher is 'Fighting,' Believes That He Will Recover

Former Ferrari racing boss Jean Todt spoke about Michael Shumacher's condition shortly after visiting him at his Swiss mansion where he is being cared for in a specially built medical suite. According to the Daily Mail, the ace racer has a team of 15 medical experts at his home.

In an interview with Belgian broadcaster RTL, Todt said that Shumacher is "fighting" and he believes that eventually, he will get better.

"What's important is that he lives and that his family is with him. We really believe that things will get better. He needs time and to be left alone," said Todt. "We may assume that Schumacher can live a relatively normal life within a short period of time."

However, Todt said that this could be the end of the line for Schumacher when it comes to his racing career.

"What we can say is that he will probably never again drive a Formula One car," he explained.

Schumacher had a ski accident in the French Alps on Dec. 29 last year, which left him with catastrophic brain injuries. He spent time in a rehabilitation clinic in Lausanne, Switzerland, before being discharged two months ago. His medical team, along with his wife Corinna and his children are with him as he takes grueling steps towards recovery. The Daily Mail reports that he remains immobile and unable to speak as of the moment.

It is reported that at the end of the year, his father Rolf will be moving from his home in Germany into a specially made residence built for him on the grounds of Shumacher's estate.

"A long and hard road is in front of him," said Todt to RTL. "Hopefully things will improve. His family is close to him. He needs time and peace."
